Mazda had a ceremony to kick off the construction in Salamanca. The ceremony itself was hosted by Mazda Motor Corporation’s Representative Director/Chairman of the Board, President and CEO, Takashi Yamanouchi, and Sumitomo’s Executive Vice President, Kazuo Ohmori. Outside of those two it is believed that right around 400 people attended the ground-breaking ceremony.
You may be asking yourself why this production facility is jointly owned, and the answer is quite simple. Both Mazda and Sumitomo plan to consolidate their individual strengths to bolster both companies’ business in the rapidly growing Central and South American climate. The new production facility will feature both vehicle and engine assembly plants and will start March 2014. This new production plant is anticipated to produce an annual production capacity of 140,000 Mazda vehicles. At the Salamanca location, the Mazda2 and Mazda3 models will be produced.
Blue Ridge Mazda, a Mazda dealer in Lees Summit, looks forward to the new production facility being built and start shooting out Mazda2s and Mazda3s respectively. In the tough economic climate we’re currently in, it just shows how much Mazda continues to thrive with their quality products and service.
