The 2013 Mazda CX-5 was recently added to the WardsAuto World’s 10 Best Interiors list for the third time. Also available in the Grand Touring model is the Technology Package. This includes TomTom-based navigation, bi-xenon headlights, the Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS), Homelink technology and Mazda Advanced Keyless Entry.

Mazda CX-5 Platform To Pave Way for Mazda3 & Mazda6

Many people would be surprised to note that for years both Ford and Mazda shared virtually everything. They shared similar platforms, engines and even some of their design teams, but that came to an end back in 2008. With Mazda launching their new platform, the first vehicle to show that to the public will be the 2013 Mazda CX-5 Crossover. The new CX-5 will mark the first of a completely new wave of vehicles using Mazda’s newest production techniques as well as much of their state-of-the-art SkyActiv technology.

After the release of the new Mazda CX-5, Mazda has made public, that the next vehicles to receive an overhaul on their new platform will be both the Mazda3 and Mazda6. The Mazda6 will draw a lot of inspiration from Mazda’s newly released concept, the Takeri. The Takeri made its debut back in November at the Tokyo Motor Show and has a lot of people buzzing about what’s to come. The re-designed Mazda6 is set to be unveiled next spring.

One hurdle that Mazda overcame with their new platform was the implementation of their specialized, 1,800 megapascal (approximately 261,000 psi), ‘ultra-high tensile steel’ in the construction of their vehicles. Mazda is excited about this steel as it is not only lighter, but it is significantly stronger.

One thing that Mazda made sure to keep intact ,with their new platform, was their “Zoom Zoom” approach. Hideaki Tanaka, one of Mazda’s Project Managers, stated that, “The ride and handling [of the CX-5] are very nice with a significant advantage over its competitors.”

released a peek at the new 2012 CX-5! The CX-5 is a small crossover  which is set to make its debut at the Frankfurt Auto Show this September. The new five door crossover is infused with Mazda’s shift towards “KODO” outlook, which translates to soul of motion, on the interior and under the hood. The new CX-5 will have a SkyActiv engine and as well as SkyActiv transmission options.  Each engine in the CX-5 will have two options the first being Standard Power and secondly High Power. The difference boils down to being more gas efficient in the long run.

Though a lot of details have been released regarding the engine and the overall “zen” of the 2012 CX-5 details are still scant on exactly what kind of transmission options the CX-5 will have. There has been speculation though that it will be a six speed though once it is launched, manual will probably be standard with an automatic option. With that being said it is believed that fuel economy will be much greater as well!

As stated earlier Mazda switched over to a  “KODO” design theme which stands for soul of motion. Mazda says it can be defined by three words:  speed, tense and alluring. This new “KODO” approach will be overtaking the former theme, “Nagare”, which  essentially just meant motion and overall serenity. September 13th is the big day that the Mazda CX-5 will debut in Frankfurt, Germany.
